Angelina says, adopting son Maddox from Cambodia in 2002 transformed her from troubled waif to I-Am-Woman-Hear-Me-Roar.
Her first eco-mission? To conserve the endangered Cardamom Mountains of her son`s homeland. The Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation (MJP) is dedicated “to eradicating extreme rural poverty, protecting natural resources and conserving wildlife. MJP promotes sustainable rural economies that directly contribute to the health and vitality of communities, wildlife and forests.”
While they focus on the Cardamom Mountain region, MJP engages in multiple projects on multiple fronts –all designed with an enviro-humanitarian push.
You go girl! Angelia Jolie is an uber-active Goodwill Ambassador for the U.N. Refugee Agency. This organization aids more than 20 million refugees in hundreds of countries and identifies climate change as a major cause of human displacement.
Make it Right Foundation
No slouch himself, Brad Pitt wages war against government inadequacy and nature’s fury in New Orleans. His efforts to provide green, sustainable and weather proof housing to New Orleans Hurricane Katrina-ravaged Lower 9th Ward are lauded by locals as having done more to restore New Orleans than the federal government.
Pitt’s Make it Right Foundation is powering through its commitment to plan, to oversee and finance 150 eco-fabulous homes for low income families. You d’man, Brad!
Globetrotting Green
The Brangelina couple indulges personal preferences by purchasing and protecting a 1,000 acre organic vineyard and estate in France. Chateau Val Joanis uses organic grapes from sustainable fruit to produce premium Organic wine. They get down and dirty in Port-O-Prince Haiti by supporting Wyclef’s Clean Streets Project to get garbage off the streets and provide jobs for more than 600 people.
And they each donate millions of dollars annually to Global Action for Children and Doctors Without Borders and other eco-humanitarian organizations.
For being an exceptional enviro-power couple, we salute Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in this week’s Eco-Celebrity Beat. Keep up the good work you two! The world is watching.
