Edgy Actor with Eco-Integrity
Quirky and elusive actor Ed Norton (the Illusionist) may play shy on the red carpet, but when it comes to environmental politics he doesn’t hold back. This OSCAR nominated actor uses his considerable star power to generate discussion, attention and funds in support of the environment. Norton takes action to help support ordinary people in their own efforts on behalf of the environment.

BP Solar Neighbours Program draws on star power
When planning to install solar power applications for his home in LA, Norton discovered that numerous subsidies made this eco-friendly choice not just feasible…but economical. Realizing that “the people who could benefit from this technology the most are the people who can afford it the least,” Norton approached BP (British Petroleum) and struck a deal.
For every celebrity who purchases a system from BP, a low income family receives a solar system of their own. Within a year dozens of low-income homes in LA had been supplied with solar power panels thanks to their eco-celebrity neighbours like Ed Begley Jr., Danny DeVito & Rhea Pearlman, Alicia Silverstone, Salma Hayek, Brad Pitt and Daryl Hannah.
Strange Days on Planet Earth
Norton, named the 2003 International Man of the Year by British GQ magazine, starred in the eco-themed film Strange Days on Planet Earth. Drawn to the project by the films exploration of our planet as a “truly integrated biological and ecological system,” Norton asserts how “intimately connected we all are to each other.”
Family Business
For Ed Norton, the environment is a family business. His father is the director of the Yunnan Great River Conservancy Program in China, his sister has a graduate degree in environmental policy and his brother is active in the salmon-recovery program in Idaho.
Natura & Norton: eco-conscious choice for the everyman
We’re with you Ed Norton. We at Natura understand that when the cost of eco-friendly options prohibits ordinary people from taking steps in support of the environment, we’ve all lost. At Natura, greening our offices and manufacturing is never a done deal. We constantly search for new ways to be more enviro-friendly to the world we live in and practice every day eco-logic. Our small steps and yours add up.
For making saving the planet doable for all of us, we give Ed Norton this week’s Eco-Celebrity nod.
