Mirimichi – Golf Gone Green
Justine Timberlake may be famous for his boogie (and love to bogie) but when it comes to golf, this hip-hoppin’ superstar’s actions are completely N’Sync with his environmental ideals. In 2007 Justin purchased Tennessee’s Big Creek Golf Course and has since transformed it into Mirimichi. It’s the greenest game going – and he’s got the certifications to prove it.

JT greens the game
When JT purchased Big Creek, he committed to creating an eco-friendly course – and he’s been good to his word. Plans and initiatives for Mirimichi include:
- Maximize water efficiency with rainwater fed irrigation and drainage systems
- Reduce the environmental footprint left by course maintenance by using natural grasses, abundant waste bunkers and water features
- Utilize eco-friendly course maintenance practices like hand weeding, and organic fertilizers
- Support wildlife by creating a nurturing natural habitat that includes a circulating stream and lake
- Create an eco-friendly clubhouse and obtain LEED platinum certification and fill it with recycled and sustainable merchandise and furnishings (still under construction/renovation)
- Employ electric golf carts that run on solar power (still in the works)
Mirimichi can rightfully boast that it’s the sole golf course in the world to hold Audubon Classic Sanctuary and GEO certification. Add a LEED certified clubhouse down the road – and this means…
Audobon International Certification
Mirimichi likes birdies – and not just during the game. Audobon International has recognized Mirimichi’s efforts to responsibly manage the land, water and wildlife on the course. Mirimichi was within the first ten Audobon certified golf courses in the world. This organization works to help other organizations and communities embrace environmental stewardship and sustainability.
GEO Certified
GEO (Golf Environmental Organization) certification ensures that Mirimichi is practicing environmental sustainability by protecting and enhancing ecosystems and biodiversity, maximizing resource efficiency, reducing waste, and conserving cultural heritage and landscapes.
Leed Certification
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a point based certification system verifying a low environmental impact of a particular building during all phases of design, planning, procurement, construction and operation.
