Mattress shopping tips you can take to the bank…
So, it’s been 10 years since you’ve bought a new mattress. And when you say 10 years, you really mean 15. Nonetheless, it’s about that time. You’ve done your research online; you may even know what kind of or brand of mattress you want. What about when you walk in the door to a mattress store?
We’ve talked with our sales team at Mattress Giant about issues you might want to consider when mattress shopping. After all, you’re putting a lot of money into this purchase. You want it to be right – so read on!
- Bring your sleeping partner to find products that fit both people’s needs. No one enjoys making a second trip and retrying every bed for the other person. (Also, you can actually purchase mattresses that are custom-fit for the consumer. If one person prefers a plush mattress while their sleeping partner prefers a firm mattress, we can make these for you!)
- Pillows actually matter. They provide 20% of the support for the entire spine. The first thing you should do when you walk into a mattress store is head for the pillow bar. (We have a great line of eco-friendly, all-natural or organic pillows available.)
- Be honest and upfront with your sales associate on any health issues - aches, pains, medical conditions (such as arthritis, acid reflux, restless leg syndrome) or injuries (neck or shoulders, knees and hips, especially). The sales associate needs this information to recommend the correct products for your specific issues.
- Wear loose fitting, lightweight clothing. People sleep in little or nothing, so wearing bulky clothing will distort the feeling of the bed.
- Allot at least one hour to each mattress store you plan to visit. By rushing through the process, you may not find a bed that meets your needs.
- Find a babysitter. Most children become bored in a mattress store. Once they get restless, your focus will not be on finding a product that meets your needs, but rather trying to keep them from misbehaving.
- Try the bed in the same position as you sleep at home. If you sleep on your side, try it on your side. Few people sleep on their back like they are laying in a coffin, but most people start out that way in a mattress store.
- There is a difference between firm and hard. A firm bed can have padding on top and still give you good back support.
Happy shopping!

I’m looking forward for your additional posts. My best wishes
