Good question. My company, Cargill (who owns the BiOH polyols business) believes in responsible soy sourcing. The soybeans used for Natura’s mattresses are all currently sourced in North America from local farmers. We do, however, have a manufacturing facility in Brazil that uses soybeans grown in Latin America. Since 2006, Cargill and others have banned the purchasing of soy grown from lands that have been recently deforested in the rain forest. Beyond responsible sourcing, we are also investing with our partner The Nature Conservancy to educate farmers in the region about the Forest Code and responsible farming practices.
